SCOM 2007 R2: How to add a DNS to your local IP configuration

Summary

There are occasions when SCOM 2007 R2 is installed correctly and everything working as expected but the agent push fails because it can’t resolve the machine name.

Causes

Causes include:
o   When you ping the box with the machine name, ping fails.  When you ping it with the IP address, ping succeeds.

Resolution

Do one or more of the following:
1. On a 2008 server Go to Start and to Network and click on it. At The Top Of the next Window select Network and Sharing Center. When this screen is up, on the left top side of the screen, just below Control Panel Home, click on Change Adapter Settings.
2. Inside the next window will be some icons.  Run your mouse over the Local Area Network and right click on it.  Go to properties and select it.
3. In the networking pane, you’ll see:  Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IP/v4). Select it and then click Properties button.
4. Click on the Advanced button. With the next Dialog window up, select the DNS tab Check first to see if the DNS is listed.  If not, click the ADD button, type in the name of the DNS server , click add. Then okay, okay and close.
