SCOM 2007 R2 Agent Managed Computer Availability Concerns

Summary

There are times when a computer just does not respond to an agent push.

Causes

Possible causes include:

The computer is not available because it doesn’t exist.
The computer is not available because it is shutdown.
The computer is not available because it is behind a firewall.
The machine name of the computer can’t be resolved.

Resolutions

Do one or more of the following:
1. Ping the machine with the machine name using the command prompt running as Administrator.
2. If ping -- using machine name doesn’t work -- contact your local administrator and acquire the IP address of that machine. You may also need his/her assistance to add a domain level DNS to your network list of DNS resolvers. Also, have him/her assure the machine is up and running.
3. If the issue still persists, check with the Administrator to determine why the SCOM server is not able to ping that machine and help you resolve it.
